KPE was found by the Moyo family, particularly Sello, whose roots run deep in the Okavango Panhandle. Growing up in the late 1980s and early 1990s, much of his childhood was spent assisting his parents with subsistence farming. He was also fortunate to be raised by a father who worked as a fisherman with the Kauxwi Fisheries Syndicate—navigating the rivers in both boats and traditional wooden canoes (mokoro). These early experiences instilled in him a lasting connection to the land and water-based livelihoods that shaped his identity.
Together with his wife, Goitsemodimo explored various ventures before ultimately embracing their shared passion for nature, culture, and sustainable living through an agro-tourism initiative—a blend of their heritage and hospitality.
As an indigenous son of the Okavango, Sello turned his lifelong love of camping, fishing, and river life into an eco-friendly, community-rooted destination designed to be shared with the world. KPE is not just a place to visit—it’s a place to connect with nature, with people, and with stories passed down through generations.
We warmly invite you to explore our campsite—easily accessible via the Okavango River Bridge (Mohembo–Seronga route)—and experience the magic of the Eastern Okavango Panhandle. Here, adventurous travellers can not only witness the region’s spectacular beauty and wildlife but also engage with the traditional knowledge, skills, and resilience of the communities who have lived harmoniously alongside the Okavango River for centuries.

Nestled on the tranquil riverfront of the Kashete Plains, “Kashete Mini Restaurant” draws its name and spirit from the rich cultural heritage of the Hambukushu people. “Kashete”—meaning basket—symbolises natural abundance, a nod to this area’s history of harvesting aquatic fruits and diverse fish from the nearby Okavango River.
Our small, open-air restaurant offers a camper-style buffet dining experience, designed for a minimum of four guests who have pre-booked. We serve set meals crafted from locally sourced ingredients, celebrating the culinary traditions of Botswana with a touch of international flavour. From vibrant salads and seasonal vegetables to savoury meat dishes and indulgent desserts, our buffet caters to a range of tastes and dietary needs, all served in a warm, relaxed atmosphere overlooking the river.
To help you stay connected even while you’re off the grid, we offer complimentary Wi-Fi in the restaurant and mobile bar area—perfect for sharing your safari memories or staying in touch with loved ones.
The Okavango Delta is a paradise for bird enthusiasts, showcasing an impressive variety of species to delight both experienced twitchers and casual birders. The region hosts iconic birds like the majestic Fish Eagle and the vibrant Malachite Kingfisher, along with rarities such as the elusive Pel’s Fishing Owl—a coveted sight for any birder.
Birdwatching can be enjoyed from virtually anywhere in camp, and the experience is elevated by boat or mokoro excursions on the water. For those who prefer to stay on land, a designated trail winds through the surrounding forest and woodland, offering excellent birding opportunities. This trail can be explored independently or with a knowledgeable guide for a more immersive experience. (To attach the List of birds).
The Okavango River is one of Southern Africa’s top freshwater sport fishing destinations, ideal for both fly-fishing and spin fishing. Just a short distance from camp, Kashete Permanent Lagoon offers a peaceful and productive setting for anglers, with seasonal catches including Catfish, African Pike, Redbreast Tilapia, Threespot Tilapia, and Purple Face Largemouth.
All types of fishing are available at the Kashete Plains Expedition (KPE). A 5- to 15-minute boat ride through the scenic Kashete Channel takes guests to the Okavango River, where fishing occurs in channels and waterways stretching toward Shakawe or Mohembo.
Species found at KPE include Tigerfish, various Tilapia species, African Pike, multiple types of Catfish, and Butter Barbel. All outings are guided by experienced locals who know these waters intimately and aim to provide a rewarding experience.
KPE supports a strict catch-and-release policy to protect the ecosystem. Please note that fishing is closed in January and February each year to support fish breeding and environmental balance.

A mokoro is a traditional canoe used in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, originally carved from tree trunks and now often made of fibreglass. Guided by local experts using poles, mokoros offer a quiet, eco-friendly way to navigate the delta for transport, fishing, and wildlife viewing, particularly birds and to some extent domestic animals. Used for over 2,000 years by the Hambukushu and Bayei people, mokoros remain a vital cultural tool.
