The Best Okavango Eastern Panhandle’s unique tourism experiences are centred around the Okavango River, up in these 2nights/3 days itinerary -starting in Shakawe and Kashete Campsite. Departing on Mondays and Wednesdays in 2025.

This Fully Serviced Safari is a non-participation safari, where the Kashete Plains team will carry out all the necessary camp chores to keep the safari running smoothly. You will be accompanied by a professional guide. Meals and Accommodation as outlined below:

  • (Vegetarian as well as Vegan options available on request.) Early breakfast- Cereals, rusks, tea and coffee.
  • Brunch- Eggs, beans, fried tomato, sausage and toast.
  • Light afternoon snack- Cold meats, salads, and breads.
  • Dinner- 2 courses, soup and a main or a main and dessert.
  • 3 litres of drinking water per person per day, as well as fruit juice for breakfast.
  • If you would like to take any other drinks, we will supply a cooler and ice.
  • Our semi-service Sahara Deluxe tents each feature two twin beds, electricity and lighting, a private resting patio, and shared reserved ablution facilities with amenities.
  • Additionally, both tents are equipped with Wi-Fi for your convenience.

Days 1

Shakawe to Okavango River bridge and then Kashete Campsite (Boat tour)

Begin with a road transfer to Shakawe Boat Station. Depart by boat (2-3 PM) on a 3-hour journey through the Okavango Panhandle’s riverine forests and floodplains. With expert guides, spot elephants, hippos, crocodiles, birds, or the rare Sitatunga. Arrive at the elephant tusk-inspired Mohembo Bridge. Return to Kauxwi’s riverside campsite by late afternoon. Your pre-set tent awaits; enjoy a freshly cooked dinner, fire-heated shower, and sunset lagoon views with hippos nearby—an authentic Okavango experience in comfort.
Wake up to the sounds of nature and enjoy a hearty cooked breakfast at 7:00 AM, before departing at 7:30 AM on a serene mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) ride through the peaceful channels of the Okavango Eastern Panhandle. After a couple of hours gliding across the water, stretch your legs on a guided island walk-exploring indigenous trees, domestic animals, and spotting some of the region's incredible birdlife. Return to the channel riverside for a relaxed picnic lunch in a shady, scenic spot. Around 2:00 PM, embark on a gentle 1-hour downstream mokoro ride back to camp, where another warm shower, a golden Okavango sunset, and a restful evening await.

Kashete Campsite to excursion, Eastern Panhandle especially Gowa islands (Moroko trip).

Days 3

Kashete Campsite to Shakawe via Bridge (road transport)

Wake up at your own pace and savour a cup of coffee or tea by the lagoon's edge, taking in the peaceful morning sounds of the Okavango. A relaxed breakfast is served between 7:00 and 8:00 AM. At 9:30 AM, depart by vehicle for a scenic 30-minute drive back to Shakawe for Maun or Mohembo border to Namibia, crossing once more over the iconic Okavango River Bridge.
